Accountants Can Be Fun!

Through NY Cares, a non-profit group that works to help disadvantaged New Yorkers, ten accountants from Big Four firm, Deloitte and Touche, spent the day talking to and playing games with residents , singing and generally having a grand time at our facility. The young professionals were from the Manhattan branch at the World Financial Center office and were part of their firm’s annual IMPACT Day 2007—a one-day celebration of Deloitte's year-round commitment to communities around the country and the world. 31,000 people participate in 600 projects around the nation.

“We chose Cobble Hill Health Center as the place we wanted to do our volunteer work, because we wanted to help out with the elderly and make them happy,” said Jill Pinella. This was the third year that Deloitte accountants served their day of volunteerism at our facility. “We find that the staff here makes life much more exciting for the residents. Everyone is always very upbeat and energetic,” commented Loma Nanavaty. “That’s why it was so much fun for us.”

Cobble Hill residents were treated to a morning of music with volunteers taking an active part by playing musical instruments and dancing with residents. Deloitte sponsored an a capella group who entertained as well as an array of prizes awarded during the Bingo games that followed. Volunteers called numbers and helped residents find their numbers on their cards.

“We felt we wanted to make an impact,” said Loma “and we feel we really did that at Cobble Hill. We want to come back again!”
